HISTORY

In November 1955 opens the Oriental Hotel, built by Mr. Ernesto Wang, in the same place where the America Theater was for many years until destroyed by a fire.  After a while Mr. Wang made a contest to find a more appropriate name for the Hotel and the name Balmoral came up, in reference to the Balmoral Castle in Scotland, built by Queen Victoria and Prince Alberth in 1852.  In 1960 the hotel is bought by Mr. Manuel Ignacio Lacayo Ter¨¢n which became a strong developer with his vision and creative entrepreneurial capacity.   In 1975 according to the tourism trend growth, the hotel expanded and renovated its facilities.  In 1983 the rooms were renovated again using rugs, TV¡¯s on each room and new bedding colors were used according to the rugs. Also the meeting rooms were updated, elevators replaced and public areas and lobby were upgraded.

In 2005 El Patio Restaurant ¨C Bar ¨C Caf¨¦ was built with a rustic contemporary architecture, beautiful vegetation, retractable roof and 2 comfortable meeting rooms called Helechos and Bromelias.  Recently the hotel has renovated its rooms, offering deluxe, superior, standard and suite rooms with all the services a modern traveler needs.  2 new elevators have been installed and a new lobby built in the mezzanine.

The hotel is committed with the environment, participating in conservation programs of the Natural Resources and for that reason we have reached the third level on the CST (Certification of Tourist Sustainability). This program was created to encourage the proper use of turistic resources, promoting its saving and efficient utilization; in addition CST has been recognized by the World Organization of Tourism.

As part of our mission, Hotel Balmoral contributes to the community development giving support to the creation of more and better jobs, as well as active contribution to institutions with special needs and social assistance programs, primarily for the children.
